Evil Empire

Image
Dictator Putin continues what Dictator Stalin started. Some years ago Russia did start new narrative about Finnish war crimes in WW2. Claims about concentration camps and genocide. All of this aiming just to justify military actions towards Finland. And just for the record, those are just lies, without any evidence. Even straight after WW2, Soviet union prosecutor committee did not find war crimes. On the contrary they did prove that there was not any.   Fi war trials Then few war crimes in WW2 committed by Soviet union, but as usual never admitted by Soviet Union even all hard facts existing. Seitajärvi Elisenvaara After war Kaleva Basically allies (Britain, USA and etc..) in WW2 just helped 1 evil empire to crush another one. It is so amazing when Russia is by the far largest country in the world, and still they just can't fit within their borders, they always need to have war somewhere.  Here excellent video by former Finnish Intelligence officer, explaining why Russia will...

The death is knocking

Image
One of the most legendary stories about Winter war and soldier behind that story, Einar Schadewitz. And story goes like this: Einar was middle of the very hard battlefield. Russian tank was coming to his direction. Einar jumped from his foxhole to top of tank. He did knock the tank hatch and shouted "Hey russians open up, it is death who is knocking". Russian tank crew open up hatched and Einar throwed grenade inside and jumped off from tank. Tank crew was destroyed. This happened at Summa battlefield in Winter War, famous about super hard fighting ground. Einar earned his reputation as fearless fighter already in Winter War. And he did continue same way in Continuation War. In that war he did earn Mannerheim Cross, highest possible military decoration in Finland. Book is written by Ville Kaarnakari, new shcool Finnish war historian. Book is quite short, and very easy to read.  But for sure worth of reading. Read about Einar's life story, how this famous story about knoc...

Division of death

Image
The Winter War between Finland and Soviet Union in 1939-1940 lasted for 105 days. It was hard and bitter fighting in freezing cold. Soviet Union official history does want to forget it due to their Phyrric victory. And mostly they remember the great patriotic war (WW2 against Germany) Still there is some books in Russia written about winter war from ordinary infantry man point of view. This book is called Division of death. It's written by Anatoli Gordijenko and it's based on N.I. Klimonov's diaries. He did serve in 18th infantry division 18th division attacked to Finland, but it was encircled at Lemetti area. After that encirclements continued and was divided to 9 different rings. After that started 3 months long bitter fighting in -40 degrees celsius. Finns did have superior tactics but lack of materials and russians did have artillery, tanks etc... But they were stuck and their planning and leadership was quite incompetent. It was estimated that 15000 Russian sol...

Taipaleenjoki - tuonelanjoki

Image
River of Taipale - River of death Winter war 1939 - 1940 between Finland and Soviet union, was really bitter fighting in freezing cold. River Taipale was part of the Mannerheim line.  And as every time in Winter war, Soviet union did have undisputed superiority on manpower, tanks, aircrafts and artillery. In battles of Taiple Finnish did have 1 division and some artillery, but 0 tanks and aircrafts. Soviet union did have 4 divisions and countless amount of artillery, tanks and aircrafts. Nevertheless Soviet union did not achieve break trough at Taipale river in Winter war. And that was mostly due to bravery of ordinary Finnish soldier.  This book is written by Paavo Linnanterä, he was head of the company, they were part of the 10th division 1/JR. He is using his own and company wartime diaries. He is giving his first hand view what did happen in trenches of Taipale. Battles were extremely brutal, savage and ferocious. The Forgotten front - Unohdettujen rintama Winter war 1939-1940 between Finland and Soviet union, is one of the hardest war's ever. There was several legendary battle grounds such as: Summa, Raate, Taipaleenjoki, Kollaa and so on. But one of hardest battles of that war was fought in northeast of lake Ladoga. It is called Forgotten front, because it was fought by reserve officers and soldiers in Finnish side.  February 1940 there was about 150000 Russian soldiers with 1000 artillery guns and 450 tanks. Finnish did have 32000 soldiers and about 60 artillery cannons and 0 tanks. That was one of the most major superiority seen in that war. In last battles of Petäjäsaari, there was hardest artillery barrage and bombings seen in Winter war. And that was fought almost to the last man. Russians did suffer huge losses and they also committed war crimes by executing Finnish POW's. Book is based on war diaries and veteran interviews. It is very detailed documentary about ultimat...

Summa is one of the most famous battle grounds of Winter War. In Winter War Soviet Union tried to invade Finland as they did for all Baltic states. War was fought 1939-1940 as part of the WW2, it was 105 days of fierce fighting in freezing cold. And against all odds Finnish army held, peace agreement ended this savage Winter War. Soviet Union achieved Pyrrhic victory in this war. About 25000 Finnish and 250000 Russian soldiers died in this war. Finnish army did do one the most outstanding performances in the world military history. And for Red army it was total fiasco. One of the main reasons, why Hitler decided to invade  Russia asap. This book tells a story about frontline men's of Summa. How they saw battles in frontline trenches, when they were totally outgunned and outmanned by Red army. They were fighting against all odds. Red army did have everything, endless amount of artillery, tanks, fighters and manpower. Finnish army did lack everything else except bravery. Finn...
